MJR Contest – Strangers in BW
The contest entries have blown us away. This is an awesome opportunity for all of our great followers to come up on an incredible body of work by Mustafah Abdulaziz, but the opportunity is two-fold. We receive so much traffic to this blog from virtual strangers and it is really redeeming to see that the people who are gravitating towards MJR are really talented shooters.
That said, many of the entrees had no embedded information in the files making judging a bit tedious on our end. With that in mind i felt it might be helpful to run down what “embedding metadata” means.
IPTC metadata is sometimes just as important as the photos themselves. Without embedded captions in your images, how is a photo editor from TIME going to track you down after seeing one of your rogue images on the net about that thing you shot that one time in that far off land? IPTC is your friend, and no matter how good your photos are text will always sell photos.
If the term “IPTC” has you confused, take your photo into Photoshop and go to FILE>FILE INFO or do yourself a favor and jump on the Photo Mechanic train, and drop 40 bones into Camerabits‘ pockets. Photo Mechanic is used by many of the MJR members to quickly and easily tag, rename, sort and archive your incoming shoots and will also be used to judge your entries. Photo Mechanic is quick on any computer, loads thumbnails in a flash, and has great 2up and 4up view options for comparing frames.
If you’ve submitted to the contest already.. we’ll figure something out. But for all of those who havent yet sent in work.. the deadline is TONIGHT AT 12PM PST. EMBED YOUR INFO and send entries to firstname.lastname@example.org!
